GONADOTROPIN (HCG)
Gonadotropin is a type of glycoprotein hormone that stimulates the activity of the gonads (testes in men and ovaries in women). These hormones are crucial for proper reproductive function, sperm production, ovulation, and the production of sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen). In medicine, Gonadotropin has important diagnostic and therapeutic uses; however, in the environment of anabolic steroid abuse, it is specifically used as part of so-called PCT (Post Cycle Therapy).
Main Effects of Gonadotropin (HCG)
In men, it stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone. It is used to stimulate ovulation in women and to support sperm production in men. In women, it triggers ovulation. In men, it supports spermatogenesis (sperm production). In women, it stimulates the growth and maturation of follicles in the ovaries. It is used for a disorder in boys where the testes have not descended into the scrotum (cryptorchidism). It is also used in cases of deficient testosterone production.
Abuse of Gonadotropin in Bodybuilding
During the abuse of substances such as Testosterone Enanthate, Trenbolone, and others, the body completely shuts down its own production of LH and FSH due to high doses of artificial hormones. The brain stops sending signals to the testes, which leads to their shrinkage (atrophy). Bodybuilders abuse injectable HCG for two reasons: They apply it during the steroid cycle. Since HCG mimics LH, the testes continue to function and do not shrink. After discontinuing steroids, it helps to more quickly restore the natural production of the body’s own testosterone to prevent a sharp loss of muscle mass.
